35 Things You Absolutely Must Decide on Before Being Hired

35 Things You Absolutely Must Decide on Before Being Hired One of my favourite sites, Happy Place, posted 35 (other) things you absolutely MUST agree upon before getting married  based on a Hufftington Post article. I decided this was a great list but it needed another scenario. Therefore, I came up with 35 things you must decide on before being hired imagine this being asked in a final interview: Why is it open source if companies take the software and then sell it? (i.e. Linux RedHat, MongoDB) Whats your office stimulant of choice: Starbucks, Red Bull, Adderall or Cocaine? Grumpy Cat or Office Cat? Did Han Solo or Greedo shoot first? Is stealing code off GitHub okay if you’re lazy? Let’s talk internships: hot co-ed with no skills or skilled intern whose face was lit on fire and put out with a wire brush and a tennis racquet? If we hire a new developer, how long until we make them code for 12 hours straight with no breaks? iOS, Android or are you a loser with, like, a Nokia or something? You’re supposed to be working but you’re on Reddit, Facebook, Digg or…4Chan? Star Trek, Star Wars, or both? There’s been an apocalypse. We have one can of Red Bull left. Will you or me stay awake long enough to drink it? When you finish your breakfast, do you have more syrup stains or a mouth stained by a sugared cereal? If you were to perpetrate an office massacre, would you kill indiscriminately or the people who wronged you, like that hottie in accounting who won’t even speak with you? YouPorn or XHamster? NASA or FEMA? Cartoon Network or Lifetime? When the office gets too messy, do we move? Or burn it down then move? Or shove everything in a desk drawer in reception? Harry Potter: the books or the audio books? If you answered the movies, you’re already out. You’re on the toilet making a horrible, sinful poop. Your boss walks in. Pucker or let ‘er rip? Ian McKellan or Patrick Stewart? Shower or Grower? Ancient Aliens: Did they build the Mayan and Aztec Ziggurats or just the Pyramids? If you had a time machine, would you go back and kill Hitler or would you prevent Windows Vista? Austin Powers or James Bond? Craft Brew or PBR? Eating Habits: Vegan, Freegan Vegetarian, Pescaterian or Not an asshole? Better on hipsters: skinny jeans or unquenchable flames? Who killed JFK? Oswald, Illuminati, The Mafia or the ZOG? Teaser, pleaser, shocker or spocker? If you run out of clean plates do you: do dishes, make one out of Legos, or eat off discarded junk mail? Justin Bieber or a cat in a canvas sack being beaten with sticks? Palm Pilot or Blackberry? Skin that looks like leather or a leather outfit made out of human skin? Put the lotion in the basket or do you prefer the hose, for a second time? When sharing a meal with a joint check, do you round your share or contribute exactly the amount, to the penny, of your share? Anymore questions? Leave them in the comments below!

Careers Support for Humanities PhDs University of Manchester Careers Blog

Careers Support for Humanities PhDs University of Manchester Careers Blog If you are a veteran Humanities PhD student, you probably know that the SALC Graduate School and the Careers Service have joined forces to make it even easier for all Humanities PGRs to access career  support. If you are new, now you know! I   hold drop-in guidance appointments in my office in Ellen Wilkinson C1.5 (some of you might have already noticed the door and/or me bedecking it and the walls with useful careers stuff). If the door is open, do stop in and say hello (if the door is closed, I will be having an appointment with someone. Or not there.). If you arent normally in the Ellen Wilkinson Building, please note I am in C1.5, not 1.5o which does exist, but in another part of the building and for a wholly different purpose! You can book appointments from the Careers Service website: http://bit.ly/2e1JuOO What is careers guidance (and why might it be useful)? That phrase is made up of two words with interesting histories. Our modern ‘career’ derives from the French carrière â€" a racecourse for horses, later meaning a path, a course that one follows before finally acquiring its modern sense of a person’s course or progress through life. Guidance can trace its roots back to an Old French guier to guide, lead, conduct. The OED defines a guide as: “One who leads or shows the way, esp. to a traveller in a strange country; spec. one who is hired to conduct a traveller or tourist … and to point out objects of interest.” We are often a strange country to ourselves. When I ran a workshop with a group of second year PhD students, in response to my questions none â€" apparently â€" had any achievements, skills, knowledge or experience. As University of Manchester PhD students from all over the world, I know and you know, that’s simply not true. There are two things going on there â€" often we don’t know our own achievements very well because we haven’t stopped to reflect on them, and, sadly, we are too often conditioned to minimise our achievements rather than be able to speak about them confidently. We don’t benefit from the experiences of others, and they don’t benefit from yours. Everyone loses. In a guidance appointment I won’t tell you what to do (or not to do), but I will conduct you on a tour of yourself and point out objects of interest and curiosity in your life. My aim is to help you assert as much control over your career as possible â€" a ‘progress through life abounding with remarkable incidents’ (OED sense 5a. doesnt that sound quite appealing?) rather being feeling like you’re being dragged on a wild gallop by an errant horse. As ever, I look forward to meeting and working with you during the coming year! All Postgrad-highlighted Postgraduate career planning job hunting Options postgraduate

Avoid These 5 Mistakes When Recruiting on YouTube

Avoid These 5 Mistakes When Recruiting on YouTube If you use YouTube on a regular basis, whether that’s for personal or professional purposes, you’ve probably noticed that the platform is being used in a whole range of different ways by its users. You may have also noticed that some of these ways are… ineffective. For every viral hit, there’s plenty of other videos that seems doomed to languish in obscurity, whether it’s due to technical problems (like an unappealing thumbnail image or a confusing title and description) or creative ones (some videos, let’s just say it, are boring). As recruiters flock to this site to attract passive and active job candidates, it’s increasingly crucial to avoid the kinds of pitfalls that lead to videos going unwatched. In this way, you can set yourself apart from the competition and come closer to winning the war for talent. 1. Leaving Out CTAs First things first. Most video content is fundamentally about one thing: conversions. This means that no matter how high quality your production values are, and no matter how inspiring your message is, your content is not doing its job if it doesn’t lead viewers to take a particular action. This is why CTAs are such an important part of the YouTube landscape. They enable you to direct viewers to whatever web page bests align with your recruitment goals. If your video is recruiting for a particular position, users should be able to click an “Apply Now” link within your video that will take them to a landing page for that particular position. If you’re trying to attract candidates to the top of your funnel, your link should direct them to whatever page within your site signifies conversions. Without this step, your viewers will have to try and find your company on Google (to say nothing of the exact position within the company that interested them), which is more effort than ma ny people will be willing to put in. 2. Measuring Success with Just Views Like we said above, most videos should aim for conversions of some kind. Depending on what part of the applicant funnel you’re aiming for, this might take different forms. Just as important as your ideal conversion, however, is the metrics you use to measure your success. We bring these things up in the same breath because many YouTubers still think of views as the end-all-be-all of success. And sure, having a large number of views is nice. If your only goal is to spread your employer brand and promote your EVP, a large number of views is certainly a good sign and something that you should keep track of. But if your viewers are watching the video and then taking no actions as a result, how valuable were those views? Instead of just tracking views, you could track CTA clicks, or even applications (Google Analytics should give you the ability to trace the number of applicants who are coming from any given video). In this way, you can begin to understand the true ROI of your efforts i n terms of tangible recruitment success. 3. Choosing the Wrong Ad Format One of the most daunting things about YouTube’s ads platform is the sheer variety of different ad formats. We have a more thorough overview of them here, but suffice it to say that which ad format you want will depend on what, precisely, your goals areâ€"which can be a hard thing to figure out without guidance. Thus, if you’re working on a budget to target a very specific demographic for a particular job, you likely wouldn’t want a Bumper Ad (because it’s only six seconds longâ€"not enough time to really entice your viewer to apply) or a PreRoll Ad (because they’re not skippable, meaning that you pay for every view even the viewer pays no attention to your content). Instead, you might use a TrueView ad. Why? Because it’s skippable, meaning that you only pay for the viewers who make it all the way to the end, making it much more likely that you’ll stay within budget while letting your target demographic partially self-select. Conversely, if you’re doing a big, general employer branding push, a Bumper Ad might work wonders, because it’s short, to the point, and non-skippable. 4. Ignoring Your Team We’ve talked a little about the pitfalls associated with how you optimize and measure your video content, but what about the videos themselves? How can recruiters be certain that they’re presenting content that will resonate with their target candidate personas? Perhaps the most important mistake to avoid is ignoring your current team. In recruitment videos, there is often an impulse to put leadership or management front and center, but in point of fact, it’s usually your coworkers who are capable of having the biggest impact on prospective applicants. Why? Because a video that highlights their hopes, dreams, aspirations, and day-to-day realities are the best way to give real context to your employer brand and your EVP. If, for instance, your company offers a set of exciting proprietary tools and the chance to learn new things about interesting topics, you can take that out of the realm of the abstract by letting your team speak about how these benefits have impacted their live s. By doing so, you give applicants a concrete story that they can associate with your business, making it much more likely that they will take the time and effort to really envision themselves working with your company. 5. Expecting Job Ads to Go Viral Okay, you might be saying, I’m avoiding all of these mistakes, why aren’t my videos going viral? Unfortunately, that’s just not a realistic expectation for most recruitment-focused content. Sure, you’ll see exceptions to this rule, and it’s worth creating content with the potential to go viral (assuming you don’t sacrifice meaningful employer branding content), but the problem with expecting videos to spread like wildfire across the web is that it obscures the hard work that goes into using YouTube for recruitment. It’s not about making a recruiting video and hoping to win the lottery with it; rather, it’s a matter of continually putting in the effort to get the right piece of content in front of the right audience. This doesn’t have to be a full-time job, but it does require attentionâ€"and by acknowledging that you’ll have to work for your ROI, you greatly increase your chances of success. 9 Simple Ways to Combat Stress at Work

9 Simple Ways to Combat Stress at Work Anybody who says that they’ve never had a stressful day at work probably isn’t telling the whole truth. Unless you’re working as a yoga teacher on a tropical island, chances are that there’s been at least one or two days in your career where you feel like walking out. Stress is a normal part of life â€" when managed and channeled properly, it can even become hugely beneficial in terms of meeting goals. It’s stress that’s probably driven you so far to achieve what you have; after all, if you weren’t at least a little bit stressed about the potential outcomes of failing, then you probably wouldn’t have put so much effort into exams, interviews, and more. However, too much stress can be really bad for you. People suffering from chronic stress often find that it transfers to various areas of their lives; stress eating can lead to weight gain, whilst other people simply don’t eat enough when they’re stressed out, leading to unhealthy weight loss. Other symptoms of severe stress can include weight loss, skin problems, and issues with sleep â€" all of which culminate in an unhappy, unhealthy life. Thankfully, there are many life hacks and tips that you can do to get back in control of your stress at work and prevent it from developing into full-blown anxiety or causing any other nasty symptoms. We’ve listed some simple ways to deal with stress and regain your calm at work. Tip #1. Take a Breath If you’re feeling particularly stressed, then you have probably noticed that your heart rate is rising and your breathing is speeding up. When left unattended, stress that causes the heart rate to quicken could result in a full-blown anxiety or panic attack, if not, it can still affect your ability to think straight and focus at work, leading to mistakes and possible issues that can only heighten your stress levels. So, sit back and focus on your breathing â€" yogic breathing makes it much easier to regain control and calm yourself down. A simple exercise is to inhale for around 5 seconds, hold your breath for another five, then slowly exhale for around seven to eight seconds, or until your lungs are fully deflated. Repeat until you feel yourself regaining control and becoming calmer. Tip #2. Try CBD Oil Derived from the cannabis plant, CBD oil has grown in popularity recently thanks to its huge number of health properties. Studies have shown that CBD oil is effective in reducing a number of symptoms for mental health problems, including depression, anxiety, and severe stress. The best part is that although it may come from the marijuana plant, CBD oil doesn’t contain any THC, the active compound in weed that makes you high. So, it’s completely safe and legal to use in all parts of the U.S. â€" you can even take   dabs to work with you for those particularly stressful moments, without worrying about it showing up on a drug test. Tip #3. Cut Caffeine Whilst you’re at work, you probably go through a few cups of coffee in a day, like most people. But, whilst a cup of coffee in the morning can work wonders for giving you a boost, after a while your body will start to need more caffeine, and you’ll experience side effects such as tiredness and the shakes along with extra stress. If you must drink coffee, then it’s important to do so in moderation, and try to limit the amount that you drink later in the day, since this can affect your ability to sleep soundly at night and result in unnecessary stress levels due to tiredness. Instead, you can turn to more natural energy-boosters, for example berries, which are high in antioxidants and will provide your body with a safer source of energy that won’t cause addiction or withdrawal symptoms. Tip #4. Drink More Water Dehydration can lead to stress, so if you’re not drinking enough water throughout the day, this could lead to heightened anxiety at work. In addition, not getting enough water can lead to a multitude of health problems, including dry, dull skin and hair and a lack of focus, which can both contribute to your feeling down and unmotivated throughout the working day. On the other hand, when your body is properly hydrated, it’s in a much better position to function properly, resulting in less health concerns for you and improved focus at work; this will help to minimize the amount of unnecessary stress that you feel. Ideally, you should drink around 6-8 glasses of water per day. Take a refillable bottle to work with you, so that you don’t forget! Tip #5. Exercise More When you exercise, ‘feel-good’ hormones are released into your bloodstream, lifting your mood and doing away with feelings of stress and anxiety. Therefore, most people tend to feel extra energized and good about themselves after a workout. The best part is that even light exercise will have a positive effect; you could try walking to work rather than driving or taking up yoga in your lunch break. In addition, the more physical activity that you take part in, the more overall health improvements you will see, including weight loss, which can work wonders for your self-esteem. In turn, better self-esteem can often result in less stress. Tip #6. Choose Your Friends Although there are many things that you can do regarding your diet and lifestyle habits to enjoy less stress at work, at times you may find that it’s inevitable that somebody is going to stress you out, no matter how well you’ve been looking after yourself. Hanging out with the right crowd at work can be the best way to deal with this; toxic people who care only for themselves can be found everywhere and your workplace is probably no exception. To best protect your mental health, it’s important to choose your work friends wisely; if a certain individual or group causes you to feel down each time you come into contact with them, it’s best to keep any communication to a professional minimum. Remember that there’s no need to be best friends with everybody from work! Tip #7. Eliminate Distractions Depending on the type of work that you do, you may find yourself dealing with numerous distractions in the workplace throughout the day. This is especially true for home-based and remote workers, who usually have all the regular distractions of the home to contend with whilst trying to get tasks done. If possible, it’s important that you create a suitable working environment for yourself that eliminates, or at least minimizes, distractions. This way, you will be better able to focus on your work and get things done on time, resulting in less stress. If you don’t work from home, then speak to your colleagues to create a distraction-free workplace; this will help everybody to get more done and reduce their stress levels. Tip #8. Get an Early Night Your sleep patterns can have a huge effect on your stress levels; if you are not getting enough sleep each night, then your body is likely to be under a lot of strain, meaning that you’ll find it much harder to deal with stress in the workplace. If you are only getting a couple of hours sleep before it’s time to wake up for work again, then chances are, this will soon start to get on top of you and you might find that little, seemingly insignificant things are stressing you out more than usual. Sometimes, the demands of work or school might be pushing your limits.   Rather than being tempted to cut into your sleep, you might want to consider professional paper writers to help you get caught up. There are also many natural supplements that you can take to help you get a better night’s sleep â€" try chamomile tea or capsules; a well-known natural sedative that can help you to drift off into peaceful slumber. In addition, practicing good sleep hygiene is essential, and try to have a gadget-free, work-free hour before going to bed. Tip #9. Take Short Breaks Whenever possible, you should take short breaks regularly to clear your mind and regain your focus. Whilst you may have deadlines to hit and a lot of work to get through, powering through it all without a break will lead to you burning out.   Find and listen to some relaxing music tracks with a slower tempo to calm you and lower your heart rate. In turn, you’ll end up getting results that you’re not happy with; this could even lead to extra work for you if you have to go back and correct any mistakes. Studies have shown that working for long periods of time without a break can be seriously bad for you; along with increasing stress levels, office workers can often suffer from aches and pains due to sitting down for a prolonged period. So, speak to your boss about splitting your breaks up throughout the day; once they see that this means better results from you they’re likely to agree. Most workers agree that stress can become a normal part of the working day. Whilst some stress can be a great motivator in the workplace, there’s no need to let it take over your job! How do you deal with stress at work? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.

16 Factors to Consider When Investing in an Applicant Tracking System CareerMetis.com

16 Factors to Consider When Investing in an Applicant Tracking System Sourcing and on-boarding the right candidate with the required skills-set is the primary goal of any organization. Discovering the desired profile from a pool of candidates with a traditional process can be challenging for any HR professional. An Applicant Tracking SystemOver the past decade, the online recruitment process has evolved from a simple job posting to a fully integrated service that can minimize huge costs while improving the quality of new hires. However, choosing a solution among numerous available ATS options with varying degrees of capabilities can be a daunting task for anyone. Here we’ve discussed a few factors that will help you decide on the right software solution for your business to enhance productivity.1) Candidates’ ExperienceSoftware solutions are meant to simplify the entire process. If the candidates must endure a lengthy process due to slow performance or multiple clicks, they will get frustrated and leave your site. So, check the workflow, performance, and attractiveness of the solution before making a decision. Also, check for various other features such as resume uploading options, mock tests, and more that can enhance the candidates’ experience. 2) System IntegrationBased on the size of the organization, you are likely to integrate the software with your in-house systems. Usually, SMEs and most agencies integrate the ATS with their career website, while larger companies integrate with multiple systems. So, when choosing a solution, check whether it has the capability to integrate with your existing business systems for seamless data transfer. Research the ins and outs of your business to understand which resources you need the vendor to provide for the integration. The integration process of any software can be complicated. Make sure you have the resources to handle the integration and implementation process effectively to gain better results. Check whether the software includes Human Resource Information System Whether it’ s an SME or a well-established business, every enterprise will have its own goals and objectives. Before deciding on investing in a new solution, you need to define the pros and cons of your current business processes and figure-out what challenges you are trying to solve with the new solution. Also, analyze what you want to achieve by adopting the new Applicant Tracking System. Whether you want an ATS to streamline recruitment processes, improve cost per hire and quality of hire, and reduce time to hire or to automate the requisition approval process. Figuring-out the primary purpose of the software helps you find the right solution that can add value in your journey towards achieving your business objectives.4) Cost of ATS SoftwareIt’s obvious that price is one of the most crucial factors to consider while deciding on purchasing a solution. So, compare the prices of various software solutions available in the market and choose the best software that is within your budget.Along wi th the cost of the software implementation, consider the software upfront costs and the cost of additional software and hardware equipment that are required to manage the processes effectively. While comparing the cost of the software, also consider the features, scalability, and other crucial functionality.5) Vendor Reputation Up-timeevalAlmost every vendor projects themselves as the best option for premium-grade services. But, in reality, only a few vendors are providing the most reliable services. Instead of believing the vendor’s statements blindly, scrutinize the vendor’s reputation and check their client-base before purchasing software from them. Research more about the functionality of their ATS solution by going through the case studies and user reviews in social media networks, print magazines, and other platforms. If you are purchasing a cloud-based solution, consider asking the vendor’s existing clients about the software up-time and responsiveness of the vendor whe n required. It is worth discussing your company’s specific objectives and workflow with the vendor to predict and reduce the possibility of any errors during the implementation.6) Ease of useA robust solution with advanced features and functionalities can’t help you achieve your business objectives if your employees don’t utilize the software correctly. Check for a software that is intuitive, easy to set up, and requires little to zero maintenance. So, discuss your requirements with different vendors and consider asking each of them about their software capabilities, functionalities, system configurations, routine maintenance, customer support services, and customizations they offer.According to ReportsAndData research, around 40% of the recruiters use an Applicant Tracking Systemfor selecting the applicants. As there are many software solutions with poor search functionality, check what type of search engines vendor uses to ensure quick and accurate search results. If your emp loyees are able to use the software solution with minimal training, you can save time and money, making your investment worthwhile.7) Financial ViabilityEvery business database comprises the most crucial business data that needs to secure against theft and unauthorized access. In today’s competitive technology world, vendors come to the market and go at an alarming rate. So, there is a possibility that your vendor went bankrupt and shut shop with your money and data. Analyze more about the vendor’s business by enquiring about their existing clients, financials, employees, and more. Accordingly, analyze various software solutions and purchase the right solution.8) Social Media Job Posting In today’s technologically connected world, social media is top of everything. Most of the advanced ATS systemscome with social media integration, which allows hiring managers to promote job opportunities online. From sharing job opportunities, sourcing candidates to hosting interviews, everyth ing can be carried out on various social media channels with the ATS software. This kind of recruitment process has become a trend in the modern recruitment sphere. So, before purchasing a solution, ask the vendor whether the software is integrated with a social networking platform. Ask the vendor about the various job posting and social networking websites they have access to use and what are the additional costs for using those sites. Photo Credit â€" jobscience9) Security and Ownership of Data evalHR teams deal with a lot of personal, financial, and other crucial business data that needs to be secured against theft. Unauthorized access to this confidential business data can lead to serious legal repercussions. So, invest in the solution that leverages advanced technology and security protocols, and provide hosted services across SSL servers to secure data. Also, confirm whether the vendor will delete all your information stored on their system and backup servers once you stop using their system. Purchase a solution that is in-compliant with the security standards.10) Legal ComplianceThe legal rules and regulations for software solutions vary from country to country. If you are managing a multi-national company that has branches across various countries, you need to be more careful. You need to ensure that the software you are using has tracking tools for legal compliance, so you don’t have to bother about lawsuits and fines. It is imperative for the enterprises that are doing business with the federal government to be OFCCP Check whether the software you are buying enables you to track applicantsthroughout the entire process â€" from source to hire and monitor job posting and social media success to determine the advertising budgets. The software should help the enterprises to identify bottlenecks in the recruitment process and determine where the referrals are coming. So, go for a solution that comes with analytics tools to enhance the hiring process.12) IT Features Considerations Businesses must embrace technology in order to stay ahead of their competitors. To keep pace with the ever-evolving market, the ATS should be accessible, secure, and stable for both HRs and job seekers. When researching a solution, check its system integrations, technical and customer support, compatibility with employee referral portal and other portals, accessibility and security and ownership of data, and more.13) Flexibility, Scalability AccessibilityEvery enterprise meant to grow in the long run. So, make sure that the software you are going to purchase has the capability to support the growing requirements of your business. Both the on-premise and cloud-based software solutions come with a set of advantages and disadvantages. The on-premise solution provides you with the full control of software and hardware required to run the solution. You need dedicated IT resources to manage the on-premise solution. On the other hand, a cloud-based solution will b e managed by the vendor, allowing you to concentrate on more productive tasks.According to the GlobeNewswire, cloud deployment is anticipated to witness a higher CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 8.2% during the forecast period (2019-2026).So, decide whether you want a solution that will be maintained by your in-house staff or vendor maintaining it. However, the cloud-based application tracking software provides you the flexibility to increase or decrease the storage and bandwidth whenever required. 14) Internal Candidate Portal When it comes to recruitment, hiring/ promoting internal employees to the vacant positions is cost-effective when compared to on-boarding outers. Ask vendors if the software they are providing has a separate portal for internal employees to check the vacancies.Consider discussing the features and accessibility of the internal candidate portal. Some questions to ask the vendors to know more about the portal: Will the recruiter gets notified when an internal employee submitted a job application? And Is there any possibility ofcreating jobs for only internal employees? 15) Employee Referral PortalReferral hiring is gaining more popularity due to the range of benefits it offers. According to Deloitte’s research, referral hiring reduced the time to hire by almost 50% when compared to on-boarding outers. The referral recruitment strategies help you source right candidates with required skills-set and improve retention levels and applicant conversion rates while reducing time to hire. So, go for an ATS solutionthat offers a separate employee referral portal for employees to refer their friends for jobs.16) Technical and Customer SupportUsability, performance, and downtime issues can be crippling while using a solution. Even though most vendors name themselves as a 24/7 support provider, it’s meaningless if the support is poor. So, it is always advisable to discuss with vendors about their customer support team working hours, cus tomer satisfaction ratings, and second-and-third-level support capabilities. Rather than blindly believing the vendors’ statements, interact with the vendors’ existing customers, and collect their feedback about the vendor’s actual customer support services. Regardless of how user-friendly a solution may be, there will still be a set of sophisticated programs that need special skills to use. For this, every enterprise needs dedicated expertise with skills and experience to use the software effectively. The dedicated resource provided by the vendor should be capable of handling the issues of the system and also has to train the in-house employees if needed. To know more about the support services of the vendor, consider discussing the following questions with the vendor:Fee for support services.Availability of dedicated manager for the company.Customer support service working hours.Whether training is available.Help guides, user forums, and knowledge base and more. The Bottom Lin eIf the software you’ve purchased fails to streamline your job application process, you may lose many worthy candidates.Choosing an ATS solution that best suits your business-specific requirements takes plenty of effort and research. Along with the factors mentioned above, there are many other priorities to consider while deciding on the software to choose from. It includes dashboards and analytics reporting, on-premise or cloud-based solution, GDPR compliance, data security, and more.As the software purchasing process involves huge investment and workforce, it’s always better to research thoroughly before deciding on the software to avoid unpleasant surprises later.

Happy, Healthy Jobs - Occupations that Boost Well-Being - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. How in the hell could a person enjoy being awakened at 6:30 a.m. by an alarm clock, leap out of bed, dress, brush teeth and hair, and fight traffic to get to a place where essentially you made lots of money for somebody else and were asked to be grateful for the opportunity to do so? That quote, by the late author and poet Charles Bukowski, summed up his personal view of the American workforce. It was a view tainted by a number of menial jobs that gave him little to no satisfaction, and eventually drove him to the typewriter, where he would become one of the most recognized literary figures of the 20th century. Today, millions of Americans feel just as unsatisfied as Bukowksi once did. Theyre unhappy with their wages, working conditions, workplace relationships, or prospects for career advancement. Studies have shown which career fields are most gripe-worthy, producing not only unsatisfied employees but unhealthy ones as well, with increased rates of obesity and smoking. Fortunately, those same studies indicate which career fields produce workers who are happy and engaged, utilizing their skills and building healthy interpersonal relationships with co-workers and supervisors. Satisfied workers tend to be healthier and happier, and have a more beneficial work-life balance. Companies also benefit from creating work environments that produce happy, healthy employees. Studies show that workers who are satisfied with their occupations are more productive and efficient, whether theyre standing at the front of a classroom or diagnosing illnesses. In addition, companies benefit through reduced employee burnout and turnover. Companies that can avoid spending their time and money prospecting for new employees and training them reap the benefits of employees who are content in their current roles. Prospective students or those looking to make a career change can utilize this research to help them decide on a rewarding career path, because while you might respect Bukowksis work, you dont have to agree with his views on it.
